The custom MTS case was a Buescher option and features an injection molded foam piece contoured to the Aristocrat 156 and provides much better protection than the standard case. It has nice action and plays smoothly from top to bottom. I corrected some over-sprung keys and adjusted some pads. The mouthpiece is a Penzel-Mueller that has been reworked and pairs nicely with the horn. Other than that, it’s just a great horn that has seen a lot of use. The bow guard has been pushed in slightly at the front as shown in one picture. There are no solder repairs to any posts or key guards. The neck was obviously stored in the case with a metal mouthpiece cap and other gear and it has lots of scratches with the lacquer mostly off. When regulating the horn, I removed a couple pads and checked that the original studs are still in place. I like the key placement and very positive feel better than most modern horns with the exception of a post too close to the octave key. The alto that gets the most play is a 1927 True Tone. This horn has been recently completely re-padded with Buescher snap-in pads. The Fitz said: I currently have 4 of them among about 70 horns. It is identical to Buescher’s earlier Aristocrat model which had the large “B” engraved on the bell. Buescher Model 156 tenor, serial number #350371, circa 1955.
